Selena was working hard to support herself when she learned she was expecting her first child. She had a job and transportation, but no stable place to live—and little of the companionship or encouragement she needed. Through a local pregnancy resource center, she found Eben Ministries.

Finding a Place to Belong
Originally from Durango, Mexico, Selena completed high school in the United States. Although she had relatives nearby, busy schedules and her reluctance to burden anyone left her feeling alone. She missed having someone to talk to, ask for advice, or simply share a cup of coffee with.
When she became pregnant, she was staying with a friend, but that arrangement could not continue. Her greatest concern was finding a safe home for herself and her baby. A pregnancy resource center helped connect her with Eben Ministries.
“There are many opportunities to keep moving forward on the path of Christ.”
More Than a Place to Stay
At Eben, Selena found people who cared about her and offered practical encouragement. Staff and volunteers helped her navigate paperwork and find childcare for her daughter, Emily. Classes in budgeting, cooking, sewing, household organization, infant care, and first aid gave her tools to build a more independent future.
Through hard work and saving, Selena was able to purchase a more dependable car and begin acquiring the things she needed for a home.

Growing in Faith and Confidence
Bible studies and the encouragement of volunteers helped Selena grow closer to God. She began attending church not simply because an event was taking place, but because she wanted to be there. During her journey, she also made the decision to be baptized.
As she found support, she began to see herself differently.
“I have more confidence in myself. With the support I've received, I feel I can keep moving forward.”

A New Sense of Purpose
Selena says her daughter has brought new purpose to her life. Knowing that Emily is waiting when she comes home from work gives her a sense of companionship and joy.
“Now that I have my little girl, I've found a sense of purpose in life.”
When asked what she would tell another woman facing similar circumstances, Selena spoke of the opportunity to learn, receive support, and continue walking with God. Her story shows that Eben Ministries offers more than housing: it is a community where mothers can gain skills, grow in faith, and build confidence for the future.
