When Abigail learned she was pregnant, she was frightened and unsure what the future would hold. She was living in Kansas City and trying to figure out where she and her baby could safely live. She did not have everything figured out. She simply knew she needed help.

The Crisis
Before coming to Eben, Abigail felt scared and alone. She was about four months pregnant, her housing situation was unstable and unhealthy, and without stability it was difficult to find work or save money. She worried most about facing motherhood without the support she needed.
As her pregnancy progressed, Abigail realized that a safe, stable place would give both her and her baby a better start. She learned about Eben Ministries through another pregnancy-support organization and reached out.
Finding Eben
Abigail did not know what to expect when she first contacted Eben, but one thing stood out immediately: the people she met cared about her and her baby.
With a safe place to stay, Abigail could begin planning instead of simply reacting to the crisis in front of her. She met with mentors, participated in life-skills and parenting education, set goals, prepared for Oliver's arrival, and gained access to baby essentials.
Growing Forward
Stability gave Abigail time to prepare for motherhood, save money, and think about the future she wanted. Small victories began to build momentum. She found work, began college classes, found a babysitter she trusts, connected with a church family, and continued building a support system around herself and Oliver.
Her faith grew as well. Abigail began attending church, grew closer to God, and chose to be baptized with Oliver beside her. She also gained confidence in herself as she worked through the expectations and responsibilities of the program.
Today Abigail and Oliver are living independently in a place of their own. She is working part-time, finishing her associate's degree in cybersecurity, and continuing to build a stable future for her son.
Thinking About Reaching Out to Eben?
You do not have to have everything figured out before you call. Abigail did not. She took the first step while she was frightened and uncertain about what came next.
Reaching out does not commit you to anything. It gives you the opportunity to talk with someone who cares and learn what help may be available.
